About book The Jewel (2014)

I couldn't think of a better way to end 2014 than with this book.It was fantastic! I enjoyed every aspect except the part where I have to wait until the next one is released because the ending.. was great but left me wanting more.It is very rare for me not to check out a books ratings and reviews on goodreads prior to reading or purchasing. They never influence my review or opinion but it does give me a peek into if it is worth buying in a beloved paperback, ebook or if its worth bothering with and to steer clear altogether. Anyway back to what I was saying.. its very rare that I don't check but in this instance I didn't because I received it as a Christmas present but had my eye on it in shops for awhile so I jumped straight into it. Once I finished as I normally do I came to post my star rating and am VERY surprised at the amount of non-love being shown to this book. I am in no way saying that those who chose a lower rating aren't entitled to their opinions and you can't please everyone but I LOVED this book immensely and think you should definitely give it a go.Can't wait for book 2 SUMMARY:The Jewel means wealth. The Jewel means beauty. The Jewel means royalty. But for girls like Violet, the Jewel means servitude. Not just any kind of servitude. Violet, born and raised in the Marsh, has been trained as a surrogate for the royalty—because in the Jewel the only thing more important than opulence is offspring.Purchased at the surrogacy auction by the Duchess of the Lake and greeted with a slap to the face, Violet (now known only as #197) quickly learns of the brutal truths that lie beneath the Jewel’s glittering facade: the cruelty, backstabbing, and hidden violence that have become the royal way of life.REVIEWViolet must accept the ugly realities of her existence... and try to stay alive. But then a forbidden romance erupts between Violet and a handsome gentleman hired as a companion to the Duchess’s petulant niece. Though his presence makes life in the Jewel a bit brighter, the consequences of their illicit relationship will cost them both more than they bargained for.I get that some people are into this dystopian stuff ( don't know why...isn't the world depressing enough?)But seriously, this is just a Hunger Games wannabe ( not that I like it mind you) First of all, the whole girl emerges and eventually brings the system down plot is getting old.So is the she'ssodifferentsotheboynoticeshercrap but he dies or is imprisoned or drift apart so she chooses another conviniently placed guy...Seriously?Also, Violet, the main character meets a stylists that later helps her *cough cough Cinna from Hunger Games*. Granted he hasn't been killed (yet) Violet can be really cool, I mean she makes this HUGE sacrifice for her best friend, Raven.......but....OHMYGOSH something just came to me...In books there are all these strong girls who would die for their families and their nations but lose all their brain cells when some stupid guy came near...*Facepalm facepalm facepalm*Violet jeopardises her whole escape plan because she falls in love with a companion, Ash, (their version of gigolos) at her misstresse's castle. She is explicitly told NOT to cause any trouble.Oh well, I guess she didn't think it would be too much trouble to sleep with HIM!!!!I MEAN SERIOUSLY? HER FATE, NOT TO MENTION THE FATE OF THE SURROGATES, WAS RIDING ON THIS!!!!!!!I believe in love but my sense of self preservation is more important, especially when I've barely been in a relationship with him. And even if she thinks this is love (it's not) , could she consider the helpless girls who may die because of her screw up?Sorry people...Nothing gets me more angry than people doing INCREDIBLY STUPID things in the name of luuurrrve....*gag*So anyway, Violet inevitably compromises her postion and her boyfriend's at the end of the book, ie, being caught canoodling and him being sent to the dungeon or worse...It's not all bad... There's a surprise at the end that actually made me interested in the next bookI won't tell you yet, I only say that if you read the book (but I wouldn't ask this of you) read my review again and ponder on the predictions below:Violet will fall in love with someone else ( probably end up with him)Ash, the BOYF will die It's still a fifty fifty on if she will have a baby though...Idk that's all i got....FOR ALL OF YOU WHO THINK I'M BITTER THOUGH, WAIT FOR MY COMPLETE REVIEW OF BLOOD OF OLYMPUS!!!!NOW THAT WAS A LOVE STORY....
