About book The Last Threshold (2013)

A 3.5Spoiler’s throughout:Bravo Salvatore for being brave enough to kill off Drizzt. Although the book hinted at it early and often, I feared in the last 20 pages that you would not have the guts. I am sure having a beloved character like Drizzt is a blessing and a curse. The last few books have been poor, and I am content to see him go. The world had passed him by, and now he gets to be with Catti-brie.Although an improvement over the others in this quartet, this book still seemed lazy at times. How exactly did Errtu become so stupid that he did not recognize Tiago was not Drizzt? The 18 years of sleep seemed extremely random. And what was up with Pwent being a vampire? Why is there not a scene of Drizzt finally being reunited with Gwen until his death? The dialogues and character interactions were improved. Drizzt, Dahlia, Entreri, Effron, and Jarlaxle are richly presented and have some worthwhile interactions. Am I satisfied with Drizzt’s death? I am torn. Something heroic and grand would have been fun. But Salvatore went the more realistic way, with a whisper. Drizzt’s standing in the Ten Towns has been damaged, and his companions are a poor shadow of his previous crew. He dies because he will not kill Dahlia. It is an ending I can live with. Though maybe Gwen could have been summoned to subdue and not kill her? I recently told someone that that of all the characters in all the books I have read, Drizzt is the one I would most like as a friend. It was a statement made off the cuff, but after some time to contemplate, I can’t come up with a better answer. Goodbye friend. I figure since I am doing this review after finishing the series that I will only do one review and make it a review of the series rather than the individual book. This series was a truly worthy continuation of the saga of my favorite fictional character. As always with books on Drizzt, I find myself strangely portrayed by Drizzt. In this series, Drizzt is thrown in with new friends and he now views his world in a different light. His world is changed. Where once everything seemed so black and white, good and evil, now the path grows muddied, and as Drizzt finds his own path becoming less clear and his actions questionable, it made me realize that life is going to be like that. For many of life's problems, there is no right answer, but you make what you believe are the right decisions and hope for the best. In conclusion, a thrilling series and a great ending of the life of Drizzt Do'Urden (or is it?)

Do You like book The Last Threshold (2013)?

A little trippy at the end, but overall, another excellent tale from Mr. Salvatore.
