About book The Misadventures Of A Teenage Mark (2011)
A humourous (and sometimes sad) account of a teen's sexual misadventures, both self-inflicted and those involving other participants. The author seems to be about the same age as me, so some things were familiar, but my youthful experiences and his can't even be compared. For the most part I enjoyed it and found it interesting, but there were a few times that I was brought up short by language and an attitude that seemed a little sexist or harsh toward women/girls (my tolerance is very low). Also, this was a compilation of blog posts and never saw an editor's pen; there were some spelling errors. I'd read more by the author. This was mostly a prose form of loosely-sketched funny, or not so funny, moments in a young man's sexual development. Some of the incidents made me laugh aloud, although most of his experiences just explain how little information people were given about sex and their sexuality as little as twenty to thirty years ago. I would have ranked it higher, but I felt that once Mark made the progression past lust to love with sex, the story just ended. I will have to check to see if there is more information about his relationship later in his mid-twenties.
