About book The Party Boy's Guide To Dating A Geek (2012)

I liked this a great deal. Fee and Ash were well drawn, the story built a slow simmer (showing Ash's mounting frustration with Fee's reticence), and the emotional presentation was authentic and palpable. Nice writing. Good characters. Presence of family important, and I love that in a book.I've personally always been a Fee-type person, although I'm not a geek. Now, my husband is a geek, a computer code-writer, and I kept trying out the terms on him (like RTFM) and he knew them all. So, while both my hubby and I were never party boys, were never into casual sex, I am not sure I'm totally comfortable with the clear-cut "triumph of true lover over random hook-ups" premise. It suits my personality and my history, but I try not to judge based on my own personal leanings. On the other hand, it is a story about Ash's shift from promiscuous to monogamous through the power of his love for a single other. I can buy that. I wish, however, that his friendship, say, with Ty, had allowed for another viewpoint (unless there's a sequel coming...). This book took me a little getting into, I'm not sure why, maybe because at the start Ash seemed a tad cocky and full of himself. As I read on though, I slowly fell in love with it and Ash and Fee.Ash is the good time boy, likes to club and party and NEVER says no. I can see why the authors wrote him as so sure of himself at the start, it showed his character arc after meeting Fee beautifully. A tattoo artist who is hoping to own his own shop soon with his best friend, this is the first book I have ever read where I wanted some visuals - I really, really wanted to see the tattoos that Ash designed. I loved how Ash worked so hard to get Fee to notice him and the 'out of his comfort zone' book meeting had me squirming with embarrassment for him.Fee is the quiet and somewhat shy 'geek' that Ash falls for. He is a lovely character, one of the most sincere I have ever read. I like how he genuinely wants to help people. I like how he trusts people - though it took him a little time with Ash, but hey all those rumours were true. I adored how protective he was, keeping Ash away from his dad. The only thing I didn't like so much is how he was so beautiful. I'll explain. When Ash first meets Fee the first impressions are that he's a real geek - yeah Ash is attracted to him and thinks he's hot but he is wearing the 'wrong' thing etc, then when we see Fee dressed up for clubbing everyone comments on how stunning he is. I'd really have liked it for him to still be a bit less than perfect and for him to be so stunning just to Ash's eyes - that's what love is, you think that the one you love is the most beautiful person in the world, even if the rest of the world doesn't agree. It's just a small complaint, because who doesn't like their heroes to be fit?Oh and the waiting - hot, hot, hot. Scorching.I can't wait to read the next book in this series, I really want to find out what is going on with Ty (Ash's best friend and co-owner of tattoo shop). I want to know if things continue to be good for fee and Ash. I've read lots of Piper Vaughn short stories and knew I'd love her style - she does falling in love brilliantly, but this is my first full length novel of hers and I'll certainly be reading more. I've never read any Xara X Xanakas but will look for further works by her too. A fun book recommended for a fun read.
