About book The Romney Family Table: Sharing Home-Cooked Recipes And Favorite Traditions (2013)
While I love all things about Mitt, this is far less a legit cookbook than a story-telling book about their family and food "traditions". I mean, when you include a "recipe" on how to make a fluffernutter sandwich or "varieties" of rice krispie treats ("Add green food coloring for St. Pat's)you're not exactly teaching people anything "new". But, I do love all the photos and the stories about what each of the meals mean - especially the summer food section where each of the generations put together a meal to include in the book. This book surprised me. I thought it was going to be a cookbook filled with lots of recipes. There are several recipes, most which seem fairly simple and good old home cooking. What I wasn't suspecting, though, were the stories behind the recipes and many of the Romneys' traditions. It made me realize even more the importance of family traditions, simplicity and time together. It also made me really like Ann Romney. She seems like a very down-to-earth, warmhearted woman who did her best to raise 5 boys in such a way.
