About book The Secret Race: Inside The Hidden World Of The Tour De France: Doping, Cover-ups, And Winning At All Costs (2012)

I followed cycling closely during the Armstrong years. I defended vociferously and was shocked when he finally came out. I had been looking for a lot of answers. This book pretty much gives all of them. An amazing journey inside the world of top end bike racing as well a detailed account of how the doping worked. Must read for anyone remotely interested in cycling, the Tour de France and Lance Armstrong. This is a mind boggling account by Tyler Hamilton of doping in cycling . Hamilton was a contemporary and for a period a team mate of Lance Armstrong and he reveals all about the routine doping that took place .If you didn't dope you were a dope and finished nowhere . You might as well have given up the lucrative career and money and fame that a successful rider enjoyed .Hamilton seems an ok guy who went along with it all as did his fellow riders . He rode took the drugs as did everyone else . Lance Armstrong was out on his own and is obviously a complete shit . Basically he bullied and ran the sport and gained the compliance of administrators , drug testers , the media , charity donors , sponsors and all and sundry in his cheating and lying . As in a lot of scandals there are so many vested interests and so much money at stake that the truth is well hidden . A few lone wolf journalists constantly tied to counteract the received wisdom but they were vilified and excluded
