About book The Sisters Eight Book 1: Annie's Adventures (2008)

Fantastic beginning to a new series. Eight sisters, born within one minute of each other (this caused endless questions from my daughter - she is still perplexed) and each girl has a very different approach to life. They have unusual parents who have built a unique home for them. This home includes a robot who cleans their house but cannot follow the commands they give her AND four different sitting rooms with a design based on one of the four seasons (the hammock does seem very inviting in the summer room). Sadly, the fashion model father and scientist mother disappear in the first chapter of the book and the eight sisters have to find their parents while they discover their own 'gifts' that seem to be based on an existing strength or talent. So far we've only learned of Annie's gift and it is quite a practical one and her sisters support her throughout her search and after. The eight sisters bounce back and forth between getting along and arguing and we found that very satisfying. They are like real sisters (well, maybe they fight a little less) and the way that they deal with the disappearance of their parents is believable and inspiring. We couldn't wait to read the second one and have already checked it out from the library. It is next on our list of books to read. Might be an early bedtime tonight so we can dig in and see what the sisters are up to.Oh, I dislike the cover and the style of illustrations but the 10-year old in our house thinks they are prefect! Cute series about a set of sisters (octuplets, actually) whose parents go missing. They must each learn to figure out their special "gifts" as they solve this big mystery... I was going to read this series together with my daughter, but she LOVES these so much that I couldn't keep up with her! She just began book #6 and giggles away telling me about all sorts of things happening in the story. Reminds me of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Definitely a step up (in length and comprehension) than other kids' series like Magic Tree House and Secrets of Droon.

Interesting idea for a series but this book was a little over the top for me.
