About book The Sweetest Dark (2013)

Closer to a 3 1/2 but went with four since that's not an option. When Eleanor, an orphan, is sent to an exclusive school for young ladies she does not expect to entrance the son of a duke or to find herself discovering ancient secret passages in a castle now turned school called Iverson. Nor did she expect to find herself in a love triangle between the duke and the garden boy. And she didn't think that all three of them would have magic - with hers the most powerful magic of all. This continuation of the Drakon series by Shana Abe certainly intrigued me but I didn't feel it equaled the work done at the start of the series. It kept me intrigued enough that I am reading book two to see what happens with our love triangle. Not a bad start.Lora is moved to a new school, Iverson because of the German bombing of London. There she meets two boys; Jesse and Armand. She learns about herself and the fact that her world isn't what she thought. My biggest issue was with Jesse and Lora. I didn't like how the became all googly eyes with each other at the first glance. I understand that they love each other and stuff, but I feel that the fact that they were 'in love' with each other at first glance didn't work. I didn't how she kept talking about the fact that she couldn't wait for the night so that she could spend it with Jesse. I personally felt that Lora and Armand had more chemistry together.I liked the little twist at the end as well. It was a good blend of history into this novel. The war is in the background, but not entirely forgotten. Overall, I didn't mind this book. I thought that it wasn't a bad start to a series, I just didn't like Jesse and Lora. I'm really interested to see where this series is going to go next.

Is this a spin-off of her Drakon series?! The blurb kinda sounds like it.
