As with the first book in this series ("The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie"), "Weed's" great appeal and entertainment stems from Flavia. Her observations and insights are often hilarious and spooky at the same time. Dare I say: if all 11-year-old children were this bright, the world would a more interesting (and safer) place? :P P.S. The audio version boasts a reader who captures the essence of Flavia beautifully. Enjoy! Flavia is at it again! I wasn't sure how I would like the second book since the first, Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, was such a hit! But this one was just as good. Alan Bradley has wonderfully crafted a 11 year old chemist with a passion for poisons! Any scientist (or one who has a knack for solving mysteries) who wants a funny read with a bit of nostalgia mixed in pick up the Flavia De Luce series.
