About book The Wonder Of Your Love (2011)

*WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD*My favorite aspect of this story is how Wiseman provided closure for Katie Ann regarding her relationship with Ivan. Towards the end when I found out that the secret house was built for her and Jonas I was like "whoo hoo! #teamkatieann!". I was glad to see that in the end she wasn't rejected. But I like how Wiseman points out (through Katie Ann's voice) that the struggle love triangle between her, Ivan and Lucy was never about who had his heart, but rather how selfish he was. The only person Ivan cared really about was Ivan. This is evident in how he abandoned Katie Ann in "Seek Me With All Your Heart" and was about to abandon Lucy. He was determined to be with whichever woman suited his fancy for the moment. With a husband/boyfriend like that, even when you "got him" you're still the loser. I think letting Lucy have the house believing that Ivan built it for her was Katie Ann's way of walking away from the hurt in that she no longer needed to know "what if...?" because she was ready to see the situation for what it was while Lucy seemed to need that reassurance. It wasn’t until towards the end of this book I stupidly realize it was the second in the Land of Canaan series. I thought it was the first! Usually this kind of thing would seriously irritate me, but I enjoyed the novel so much on its own and it was quite easy to pick up the past plot-line. However, I do intent to pick up the first in the series! I’ll just imagine it’s a prequel, so as not to get irritated! This novel opens up with the events of previous one, which are quite tragic. When one thinks of an Amish man, certainly the title “cheater” does not come to mind. However, this is the case of Ivan. He was married to a wonderful Amish woman named Katie Ann. For whatever reasons, he left her for another woman. (Perhaps I’ll discover these reasons when I read the first book!) And not just any woman, an English one! That was sure to cause gossip in Canaan! But that’s not the last of it, Ivan died in a terrible car accident. And this is where the novel starts, Katie Ann is dealing with a mix of emotions. How can she hate her cheating husband when she’s mourning her loss. Not only that but she has a child from him that she never got a chance to tell him about. For what is supposed to be a “simple” Amish life, things are sure messed up for Katie Ann. Eli is a man who lost his wife many years ago, and moves to Canaan as part of his travels. He has many children that he raised on his own, and because of this he is much more sensitive than the average Amish man. Eli also exhibits the forbidden trait of pride, but perhaps, rightfully so. He accomplished so much and raised wonderful children. Katie Ann finds Eli too proud, and thus ignores the constant match-making by the community. Despite her feelings, Eli grows on her. He takes her with her on his tour of the local towns, and Katie finds encouragement and even trust again. During all of this, Katie Ann’s English friend Martha is diagnosed with a tumor in her stomach and is in need of surgery. Katie Ann is worried for her friend and without Eli. Their friendship however was deepening, and come Christmas time pops up on her front porch. The question remains, can these two realize their feelings for each other? And if they do, will they take action on it? Katie Ann found a man she can trust, a man she might possibly love. Eli is focused on traveling, but he can’t deny that he looks forward to his times with Katie Ann and her son Jonas. It could be a perfect match, but is it in God’s plans for them?
