Maaf ya, aku bukan tipe pembaca yang suka dengan sejarah >,<Ceritanya bermula dari gosip yang tak benar yang membuat sikap Thorn sangat dingin dan menghina kepada Trilby. Sebenarnya Trilby gak tahu alasan Thorn memperlakukannya seperti itu dan sebenarnya dia sakit hati atas perlakuan Thorn.Berada di Arizona yang terletak di daerah rawan perang sebenarnya membuatnya rindu kepada kotanya dulu, Lousiana, dan kepada pria yang dititipkannya cinta, Richard. Kedatangan pria itu membuatnya bahagia, namun segera pupus ketika disadarinya pria itu tak mencintainya dan ternyata Trilby merasakan sesuatu terhadap Thorn.Gairah keduanya terasa meledak-ledak dan pernikahan adalah yang ditawarkan. Keduanya menikah dengan membawa keraguan. Apakah Trilby memikirkan Richard ketika dia bersama Thorn? Dan apakah Thorn memikirkan istrinya ketika pria itu menghabiskan malam bersama Trilby?Cerita lepas lainnya dari Diana Palmer (DP) yang entah mengapa kali ini kurang menarik untukku walaupun aku menikmati membaca cerita ini. Aku suka dengan kedua karakter utama ini, tapi mungkin karena porsi perang yang cukup menyita serta karakter pendukung lain yang juga diselipkan, membuatku merasa ceritanya kurang.Aku suka dengan karakter Sissy dan Naki. Mereka adalah karakter pendukung yang kuat. Aku bisa merasakan keputusasaan mereka. Bahkan sempat terpikir olehku, kenapa DP gak bikin Sissy dan Naki saja yang jadi karakter utamanya saja? Selain itu, DP juga menyelipkan beberapa pengetahuan tentang suku Apache.Lalu untuk karakter Kapten Powell dan Lisa, itu membuatku bertanya-tanya untuk apa karakter mereka sebenarnya dalam cerita ini? Seperti hanya cerita tambahan untuk menambah jumlah halaman. Hufffttttt...Dibandingkan dengan Harlequin tipis DP lainnya, aku lebih prefer yang tipis dengan alur yang cepat dan tidak terlalu bertele-tele. Sepertinya untuk yang tebal, aku tetap paling suka dengan Lawless. Untuk Trilby, entahlah, mungkin moodku yang tidak terlalu bagus.Walaupun DP adalah salah satu penulis romance yang aku suka, sepertinya karyanya kali ini kurang menggugahku. Sebaiknya aku kembali membaca seri Long, Tall Texans saja. Heheheheheheh...Overall, oke lah. Karakternya menyenangkan. Ceritanya juga oke sih =)
What to give this book....I'm going with a 3ish. It's not quite a 3, it's not a 2 and it's not a 2.5 even because that's not quite enough. Probably I'm splitting hairs, but there it is. I think the problem with trying to rate this book is that I've no idea what sort of book this is. Part romance, part drama, part historical fiction with the Mexican Revolution, it's kind of a mish mash that leaves you with a wtf feeling at the end. I might even add its part social/racial commentary with the love story between Naki and Sissy. Personally, I found it very hard to place and it makes me want more. I think Palmer was covering a lot of themes and was attempting some important commentary on a variety of issues, but she needed a far greater canvas on which to adequately depict such commentary and eras on, and thus this book fell short in that respect. I'm intrigued by her characters, but I think too much is happening and they don't seem fully developed. Trilby is a prude who finds out what love and passion are, but I'm not exactly sure how. How did she learn these intense lessons about herself? Was it the great sex with Thorn? I can't say because it seems like a slow realization dawning out of nothing. Thorn has loved her since the beginning, so I understand his character a bit better. Hard, rough yet internally very passionate and vulnerable, him I get. Of course, he's an absolute ass to Trilby in the beginning and I'm not sure I can forgive him that, but at least I understand where he's coming from and what he's all about. Naki I also understand, and his love story with Sissy pulls at my heart because it seems like too much--to overcome, to sacrifice, to feel. Theirs is a story that if properly told be would be the stuff of legend, like that couple in The Last of the Mohicans. I really want more from their story than Palmer gives us. It's like a fire that she started to kindle and then left to smolder out. As to Lisa and Powell, I have no idea what part they played in this story. Like at all. They weren't in any way connected to anyone else. It was really odd to have them included in the story. So, overall...yeah, wish this book had just been more focused. Do You like book Trilby (2007)?
This one is set in 1910 in Arizona. Trilby was a cajun debutabte in Baton Rouge when he family moves to the Arizona-Mexico border to run her now deceased uncles ranch. Next door neighbor Thornton Vance is well off but he has a major problem, his water holes for his cattle are drying up and he has no clear path to the river which is one Trilby's parents spread. What to do??? Read the book and find out!!Another of the subplots in this book is Naki, A full blooded Apache and Sissy, Trilby's best friend from Louisiana. Great chemistry between these two. ust another one of Diana Palmer's great stories

Well, surprisingly this book isn't as bad as I was expected. Sure it started out real slow and I did 'skip pages' few times because it was boring, but eventually the story went smooth and familiar as usual.I don't really like Trilby. She's nothing but weak because she didn't stand up for herself. She didn't even tried to justify her honor in front of Thornton and that's annoying. I don't like it. Yes, too much character in this book. It was like three stories stuffed in one book which could be so much better if each and one of them stood separately, because Diana Palmer could add more details instead of quick fling here and there. Not my favorite but I don't hate it that much either. :)

I love historical westerns, and this book was set in an interesting period, the early 1900's instead of the usual range of 1850-1880. We have motorcars, and instead of Indian Wars the backdrop is the Mexican Revolution.I would have enjoyed the book even more if it hadn't been for two things:Too much historical info. We have endless discussions of the political situation, or the Native American culture. It is all accurate, but it interrupts the story. I get the impression that Diana Palmer did lots of research and wanted to shove it all in. Less would have sufficed.An even bigger problem was some aspects of the romance. The hero is led to believe the heroine is a slut. He discovers he was wrong. He apologizes, and they are good.The heroine believes she loves an educated gentleman from the East. He comes to visit and proves to be a jerk. She sees him for what he is, and so does everyone else. She realizes she loves the hero, and they are good to go.So, the hero and heroine have a wild night of passion and get married in a rush. The wedding night is another hotbed of passion. Then, the next day, the hero for some mysterious reason decides that the heroine is after all still in love with her Eastern suitor. To salvage his pride, he pushes her away with lies that he still loves his late wife. We know his first marriage was unhappy. The heroine knows it too. And yet, she believes those lies. We have two people in love, married to each other, living in the same house, suddenly ignoring each other and leading a separate life for months. Eventually, they decide to divorce and need a big external event to bring them back together.I can't accept a major plot turn entirely based on a misunderstanding that would have taken 12 words to clear up. No, I don't love him. No, I'm not still in love with her.It's a shame the author couldn't think of a more realistic way of putting a wrinkle in the relationship, instead of using stubborn pride to make the couple blind to everything else, including love.
