This is a cute little love story. It has a lot of potential, but wasn't realistic enough to make it a really good book. I expected some communication problems between these two main characters, given their different personalities. However, once they start talking they always seem to find the right words.For a socially awkward person, Davy is brutally honest and doesn't seem to have any problems finding the right thing to say. Even with little children, he knows immediately to start about cars. For someone who hasn't spoken to children once before in his life, he sure learns quickly! It seems that once they are a couple, Gavin turns into a wallflower himself. He no longer feels the need for clubbing and is fine just spending every evening inside. I have no issue believing he is "a good person" on the inside, but that doesn't mean he no longer likes to dance, right? It would have been nice to see Gavin pulling David out of his comfort zone and go some public places apart from safe outings with friends.All in all, it was a nice story, if you're not too bothered that both of them start acting out of character about halfway into the book. Davy is the Wallflower. Trying to deal with social situations brings him near to panic attacks. He just feels lost and unable to figure people out because he was brought up in near-seclusion by a caring but agoraphobic mother. The last thing he thinks he needs is bold, brash Gavin trying to get his notice every time he and his friends come into the ice cream parlor where Davy works.Gavin may seem to be at ease with people and totally confident, but people are complicated. He's trying to find his way in life, just like everyone else. And maybe he doesn't know it all, since his persistence with Davy isn't working no matter what he does. And, yes, Gavin continues for a while making mistakes, but hey--he's not perfect, but he's trying (and to be fair, Davy was sending seriously mixed messages). And all he wants to do is try and get to know Davy. But being such opposites, will this ever work out?These characters are interesting and endearing enough to want to follow and see how things work out. It's a relationship-focused story, no car-chases or mass-murders, but relationships have enough crazy pitfalls, as we all know, and there's a fair amount of conflicts to overcome.
