I do know what to expect when reading an Amber Kell book, but this one crossed the line to ridiculous early in the story.The cowboy gfy plot had my attention from when I first read the blurb, but the potential was just not reached. Cody wasn't believable as a tough manly-man cowboy, and his angst over being attracted to another man was glossed over enough to make this not even feel like a gfy story.Tyler's character felt inconsistent, as he leaves his boyfriend who's just announced he's getting married to a woman, and then immediately accepts attentions from a straight man. And then within a week has agreed to a relationship with said new straight man who treats him disturbingly like a woman.This plot had so much potential! But the characters never actually TALK about anything, and it seems like everything just magically happens and they all just accept it and move happily along their ways. Which, in Ms. Kell's fantasy stories (especially the swan prince ones!) works beautifully, but in this one where I was expecting an actual cowboy, did not work at all. Tyler's Cowboy is a cute tale of the one you never knew you wanted till he was right there in front of you. Cody was attracted to women, so when his business partner's brother, Tyler, visits, Cody is shocked to find himself lusting after the cute little man. Set on Cody and Baron's ranch, there are more cowboys in this novella than you can poke a stick at, and the lot of them have their hearts set on Tyler's cooking and a touch of matchmaking.Tyler will join the ranks of characters I love. Smart, sassy and delightfully cheeky, Tyler has an edge that keeps him from being too much. I really liked how Tyler had his feet firmly planted on the ground and how he formed his opinions based on a person's own actions rather than those of someone before. This was significant because it helped prevent the actions of other characters affecting the connection between Tyler and Cody.Cody comes across as a bit of a man's man cowboy, with a sugary sweet centre. I really would have liked to have known Cody a little better. Overall impressions are of a nice person, but this is hampered by what he deals with throughout the story, as major emotions at play include anger, bitterness and jealousy. I did enjoy the gently possessive way Cody had of crushing after Tyler.Although developed originally from a blog story, the re-vamped version is well worth a look. Not only is it longer, but a few questions have been answered, sections helped along with a bit more information and rough edges smoothed out. A contemporary novella, this one is perfect for anyone who enjoys gentle romance, cowboys and men on the fence. NxNote: Reviewed for Queer Magazine Online.
