About book Unfinished Business (Silhouette Intimate Moments #433) (1992)

This story was a bit depressing at first, but slowly the sun started to break through the clouds. I think that was intentional. A nice slow build as the main character, Vanessa, learns some truths about her past and learns about herself.Brady is the perfect hero...patient, kind, sexy, smart. What more can a girl ask for? I love that he encourages Vanessa to ask her mom the important questions she needs answers to even though it's obvious that he knows some of the answers. He finds it important for mother and daughter to hash it out with each other without his interference. He was maddening when he didn't quite get her need to "find" herself before she made any promises. But I think that could be a realistic reaction so I let it slide. As for Vanessa, she drove me nuts at times but I really got where she was coming from. I do wish there would have been a bit more of her dealing with the things her father did to her, to her life. How controlling he really was. I think, after him being her ONLY constant for so long it would have been a bit more of a blow to find out about how much he manipulated her and her time and her contacts. The issues she did deal with and the bit it was touched on was heartbreaking and very well written.

I've heard from quite a few people how great Nora Roberts' books are, so when I saw this I figured I would give it a chance, not to mention it sounded interesting. I wasn't disappointed; I really loved this book for its moments of cuteness, seriousness, comedy, and so much more.Right from the beginning it caught my attention; Vanessa's story was a complicated one. From the beginning I was not only curious about her relationship with her parents, but I wanted to settle the questions she had been in turmoil over for so long. And as time went I wanted that re-connection between her and her mother as much as they did. What was the best, and probably what made me love the book so much, was the characters. Every single one--literally every single character--was absolutely endearing and lovable. I wanted so much to actually know these people and be a part of that town. And of course there was the romance. I was rooting for Brady and Vanessa the whole way through. I mean, who doesn't love the rekindling of an old romance?Overall this book, though short, was great and had me smiling the whole way through. Enjoyable and definitely worth the read.

3 STARS A world renowned pianist, Vanessa, returns home after the death of her overbearing father. Vanessa is unsure of her homecoming - after 12 years she is seeing her mother for the first time and is still wondering why she let her go away to Europe. Then there is Brady Tucker her first love and the boy who stood her up on prom. Her mother is dating Brady's father and Brady, the former wildchild, is now a doctor and still charming and attractive. Brady trying to get Vanessa out of his heart notices that something might be wrong with Vanessa. This is a short sweet love story of childhood sweethearts meeting again after a decade or so, and also about a daughter coming to terms with her parents. It is an all right novel but not one of her best. The Cordina family makes an appearance...they do give a summary of the Cordina books - so you may wish to read them first. I probably won't read them as I know what happened in them. This novel takes place in Boonsboro - which a new series by Roberts...so don't be surprised if Brady and Vanessa appear in them

3.5 stars. Good little story about a world renowned musician, Vanessa Sexton, who returns home after her father's death to the mother she hasn't seen or heard from in 12 years. Not only does she have to deal with understanding why her mother let her go and didn't go after her, she has to deal with her high school love, Brady, who she thought unceremoniously dumped her the night of his senior prom. I'm glad there was time spent on Vanessa's relationship with her mother. I just didn't like her mother much. I really liked her relationship with Brady. The pacing was somewhat fast but for the most part the way they came together, got to know each other again, and reignited their love was well done and sweet. Vanessa's internal conflict was understandable and not overdrawn. Although I did kind of want to smack her around every time she denied her health issues. I ended up buying this twice, once in ebook form for twenty-five cents and also in a compilation of three reissued Nora Roberts books and I enjoyed the story enough that doesn't bother me (not that $1.25 truly would, haha.)

UGH. I was feeling like something light, easy, and fun, but this just got so IRRITATING.And by that I mean Brady. Brady got irritating. He's supposed to be the dream guy. Masculine and dominant but also gentle and kind, with an adorable dog, and the 'flaw' of wanting to be too serious and committed too fast. Passionate, handsome, dreams of having children, is a successful doctor. But. He doesn't actually listen to Vanessa at all! There is zero empathy!Vanessa has bomb after bomb dropped on her after she goes back home. We learn that for the past 12 years (view spoiler)[ she's had to deal with so much stress she's gotten an ulcer (hide spoiler)]
