About book Vampire Kisses Box Set (2008)

Oh my god!!! This book is horrible. Really really awful. There isnt another way to put it.It is bad written. The characters are simply... UNSTANDABLE, and I say this literally: the protagonist made me want to gag. About the plot: oh my god!! It`s utterly boring, totally dull, and clichéd. This book offers nothing new, it only gives you the same old story we already knew about the typical goth girl who falls in love with the typical vampire (who casually has as much personality as a dead rat). The book started out with this annoyingly whiny girl called Raven who is basically the personification of every goth sterotype there has to exist (beggining by her name :S ). She lives in "Dullsville" (she never mentions a real name, her city is just Dullsville... I mean, WTF?). She doesnt talk to people, is an outcast, and, as I already said, is a stereotyped goth girl.Im sorry if you find Im repeating myself when I say the goth thing, but the author just tells it to you on every page, just for you to GET exactly how GOTH this girl is...Anyway, one day, she sees a "guy" whose moving to the "hunted mansion" of Dullsville; this house had been empty for years and was really creepy (of course, as we can all imagine: she loves the house). He is really creepy and his family is too. She starts to believe right away he is a vampire, and so, she immediatly falls in love with creepy guy without even knowing him. And we ask ourselves:Oh dear god!!... HOW COULD I HAVE SEEN THIS COMING?? Its so unpredictable!!!...Not.I mean, really. This story is pathetic: starting by Raven, going through Dullsville, the hunted mansion, the creepy vampires who sleep in coffins and are exactly like the vampires in the myths, and finishing with Alexander`s whole character.I could stand this old-old-old antique plot if it was well written, but no. It doesnt even have a twist.I suppose there should be romance in the book, since the premise says so, but, if truth be told, I didnt feel love, or even attraction between those two. God, I didnt even think thay liked to be around each other. They were just "united" by how GOTH GOTH GOTH they were. They dont even talk much. Ugh, pathetic.I read up until the middle of the second book, "Kissing Coffins", and HAD to stop. For my sake. Really. I kept on reading up until there because I had faith in the book and kept thinking it would get better. But no. It doesn`t.Damn my tendency to believe in books. I just lost my time with this one.So, in conclusion: don`t buy this book. It really isn`t worth it. Strategy 1 Predict: I have done a lot of predicting while reading this book. Predicting makes it more fun for me to read any book. I may not always be right but I keep trying to get better. I predicted that Alexander would be there for Raven no matter what and I was right. Strategy 2 Visualize: As I read more and more of this book I have to visualize more because otherwise I don’t understand what is happening or where they are. This is because it is a fast paced book and it goes from a house to the school and to the cemetery within a paragraph or two.Strategy 3 Monitor: As I keep reading I have to stop and reread sometimes. This is because it can be difficult to understand what is happening or where they are due to the jumping around from the mansion to Raven’s house to school to the cemetery. Strategy 4 Use Prior Knowledge: In this book it makes it a lot easier to read if you use prior knowledge about what you have already read. This is because sometimes it has the story being told from Raven’s point of view and sometimes it’s from Alexander’s point of view, so if you don’t use prior knowledge you may have to reread the section or stop reading altogether. So this makes it so you don’t really have a choice but to use what you already know. Strategy 5 Make Inferences: I have many opinions on this book. I think that there could have been times where something didn’t need to be repeated as much as it did. Some other things I didn’t like was that it kind of dragged towards the end of the book. By this I mean that things were repeated way too many times, the characters that were being included didn’t need to be where they were, and sometimes it just seemed like they were writing to make the book longer.

This is my second time reading this and it's just as good the second time, it is for younger readers but it is an enjoyable read. I like the gothic flare to the book, it's really different and the book is really in touch with the oldies. It's very cute but borders on being a teen read which is great, it really shows that its okay to be a little weird and to be proud of your differences as well as not to judge others by their differences.
