About book Vanity, Vengeance And A Weekend In Vegas (2012)

Vanity, Vengeance and a Weekend is the latest in a series about a mystery writer and her band of fabulously kooky friends who find themselves embroiled in real life mysteries. This time, Sophie's long time boyfriend Anatoly reveals a secret marriage of convenience to her and they break up. Trying to forget about it, Sophie plans a girls weekend in Vegas with her friends only to find out there's more to the story than she knew and it has followed her to Vegas. I've read all of the other books and I've enjoyed them. (Which is the reason I picked this one up.) The humor was great. I love that all the secondary characters came back because I adore their banter. Sophie is a firecracker who gets off some really great lines. The plot was little predictable but I won't hold that against the author. It was still a decent book. But something seemed off about this one in the series. There were some clear formatting and grammatical errors. It didn't affect the story but it did throw me off--like seeing the tag on a serial killer's mask in a horror movie. This book pickes up shortly where the last one had left off. Sphie Katz, bestselling mystery writer and amateur sleuth, had broken up with and kicked out her boyfriend of 6 years, Anatoly, a sexy Russian P.I., after she was informed that he was actually married to a Russian Mafia princess, and is still married to her! Her friends Dena and Marcus rally to her defense and in trying to distract her from her heartbreak, take her to a weekend in Vegas, where there is a Sex Toy Trade Show happening. Bigger trouble awaits Sophie, though, as she discovers Anatoly is in Vegas, and after she learns what room he is in, she discovers a body in the closet, and no Anatoly! What's worse, someone has gone out of their way to implicate Sophie in the murder. A mystery man offers to help, and though she's tempted to take it, she doesn't know anything about him, or his motives. It also looks like someone is after Anatoly, too, and even though she is conflicted, NO ONE else is allowed to kill her man! By the end of the last book, the reveal of Anatoly's marriage had just come out, and Sophie's reaction (while somewhat justified) had pissed me off. I almost didn't want to go any further in the series, but this ebook was offered at such a good deal when the wonderful Kyra Davis released it, I decided to grab a copy. It took me awhile to pick it up and read it, but I am glad I did! This story brought back what I love about the Sophie Katz series. The fun, danger and excitement and all the messes Sophie gets involved in! Anatoly finally gets to tell her his story of what is really going on, and we do meet his Russian Mafia wife, as well in the story. Sophie's sister ends up showing up with Sophie's friend MaryAnn, and I love her friends and sister, even if their characters don't always get as much fleshing out, they are still an important part of her life! I also love when Dena steps up to help Sophie, even after everything she has been through (still recovering from being shot in the back in a previous novel)! I also love Sophie's stubbornness, even though it's not always a positive trait in the character, this time it is!
