About book Vivian Apple At The End Of The World (2000)

The Church of America is a religious cult led by Beaton Frick, who predicted that the Rapture would fall on March 24. Vivian Apple’s parents became Believers and were part of the few raptured on that date. Other believers who were left behind become more fervent in their beliefs as hope for a “second boat” or another rapture rises. Though the world seems to be ending and most people are converting to the Church of America, Vivian and company retain a sense of scepticism about the true nature of the rapture. With her best friend, Harp, and the mysterious Peter, Vivian takes a road trip to find out where her parents really went.I would describe this as a mix between contemporary fiction and not your typical dystopian. Frick’s predictions came while there were increasing natural disasters, wars, and violence; it is frightening to think of how radical a religion can become during times of uncertainty. Overall I enjoyed the characters and am interested in seeing what more is in store for Vivian Apple. This title was originally published in the UK as Vivian versus the Apocalypse. I received an eARC from NetGalley on a read to review basis. This book was unique and I really haven't read any other book quite like this one. I really enjoyed this book and although it's not one of the best books I've read, it still has very likable characters. For example, Vivian goes through character development as the story goes on and it turns her into a brave badass, which actually works pretty well for her. I really recommend this book if you're looking to read something fresh and original.

A cool story, but probably better suited for someone a bit younger than myself.
