About book Waging Heavy Peace. Neil Young (2012)

One of the greatest songwriters of the '60s and '70s shares stories like the one about the time he went to Costco and Sports Authority with his friends but didn't buy anything. Or the one about how he was driving one of his vintage cars and it died, he called AAA, and it was really hot while he was waiting. And I hope you have a healthy appetite for Neil's rambling thoughts about mp3 sound quality and electric cars... I am a fan. The tale seems to be laid out as responses to questions put to Neil around the various aspects of his life, in particular the past 40 years of his work. The segments follow little in the way of order as you'd expect from responses to questions. I found the filling in of blanks around his life and the clarification of why he has produced some of the work that he has and the things he as done quite enjoyable. It is not a biography as such but does present information about the private man that was up to now unknown.

Do You like book Waging Heavy Peace. Neil Young (2012)?

Hmmm. Am a long term fan of Neil Young, and wanted to read something about him because I felt Graeme Nash had been harsh about Young in his autobiography. I don't feel like I got much out of this ... Barely anything about David Crosby but plenty about cars. I see he has written another book just released primarily about this subject...ugh. So I didn't love this book, and I'm still a fan ... Just need to find a decent bio on him.

Great read. If you're a fan of YOung or just interested, this is all in his own words. He drifts from one setting to another (life with the band/music, Bridge School, Train collecting, et al) so it stays fresh. He is certainly much more than his his musical parts and that is a major reason to pick this up as well. I am more than happy that I got this. It was at a steal from Amazon too, something like $5 for hardcover.

I love Neil Young's music and won't hold this book against him.
