About book Weg Vom Schuss - Ein Miss-Fortune-Krimi (2014)

If you don't mind a story that is far-fetched, you will laugh yourself silly for six hours reading this. Every page is stuffed with those precious one-liners and humorous set ups. I truly wished the book would have resonated with me, but I could not relate to the lead character. She is a CIA assassin with 25 years of martial arts training who is capable of killing someone with a Prada shoe, or a pen, or even with a Tic Tac breath mint when necessary. This would have been cool if any of that came through in the book. Sadly, she comes across as lacking intelligence and common sense. She doesn't change her attitude to match the person she is pretending to be undercover (constantly blowing her cover). She asks the people of the town to call her by her real nickname, a name that would be known by the mole (the bad guy) in CIA headquarters. She's clumsy as heck, panics repeatedly and has to calm herself down, afraid to go to Louisiana because of the movie "Deliverance", afraid to get in a small fishing boat, lost a fight with a raccoon, and I'm thinking most assassins or someone with that much martial arts experience would react if someone jumped out of a bush and grabbed them, but she didn't. No, the guy hiding in her bushes in the middle of the night, grabbed her shovel, put his arm around her waist and dragged her five feet and she did nothing. If the lead character would have been an ordinary person in witness protection, the story would have made more sense. I enjoyed Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum book better. The main character made just as many mistakes, was just as nervous and got in the same kinds of ridiculous situations but this scenario worked with Stephanie Plum because her character had no experience. My sister recommended this book and author. Normally our tastes are as different as night and day (she loves Danielle Steele and I love Jane Austin), but I was desperate, as all of my "want to read" books were on pre-order. It was 99 cents through Barnes and Noble so I gave it a shot. It was funny, well written and had some silly but entertaining plot twists. All in all, it was a great fun read. It wasn't a good meaty steak, but it was definitely Red Vines. Not very nourishingl, but a nice indulgence. I recommend it, and am about to start the next in the series.
