About book Whatever Life Throws At You (2014)

I really love this book Seventeen-year-old Annie Lucas's life is completely upended the moment her dad returns to the major leagues as the new pitching coach for the Kansas City Royals. Now she's living in Missouri (too cold), attending an all-girls school (no boys), and navigating the strange world of professional sports. But Annie has dreams of her own—most of which involve placing first at every track meet…and one starring the Royals' super-hot rookie pitcher. But nineteen-year-old Jason Brody is completely, utterly, and totally off-limits. Besides, her dad would kill them both several times over. Not to mention Brody has something of a past, and his fan club is filled with C-cupped models, not smart-mouthed high school “brats” who can run the pants off every player on the team. Annie has enough on her plate without taking their friendship to the next level. The last thing she should be doing is falling in love. Annie lives her life with her hardworking Dad who doubles as her closest friend, and her Grandmother who is struggling with Alzheimers. When her Dad, a former MLB pitcher, is given the opportunity to move them from Arizona to Missouri for a coaching job with the Royals, Annie is all for it. She's ready to leave behind her ex who has taken a liking to boys, and her subpar friends. Her new life in Missouri brings a new best friend, Lennie, and the uber hot Jason Brody-the new Royals pitcher hopeful who is just as forbidden as is he gorgeous. But as they grow closer and closer, Annie is finding it harder to not cross that line, even with her father and Brody's future at stake.I really loved this book, as one can tell by the 5 stars. I would say it's more of a 4.5 rating for me, but either way, it's a great read. Me giving a 5 star review is pretty rare, just like me actually liking the heroine in a story is rare, but Cross manages to make me love Annie! She's a great balance between being relatable and human, while not going into the territory of being annoying and obnoxious in her mistake making, as I find so many heroines do. Just as likable are her best friend Lennie, who I would love to get a story of her own, and the obviously sexy Jason Brody (swoooooon!). The love story between Annie and Brody will give you all the butterflies you hope for, and definitely made me giddy on more than one occasion, but the relationship I loved the most was that between Annie and her father. Reading about them made me want to run home and give my own dad a hug.The only thing that holds me back from giving this book a hands down 5 star review is the way the ending seemed to be very quickly wrapped up. This is a qualm I have with probably 90% of the books I read, so most people probably won't find it to be the same, but there were some plot points I was sure would be touched on again that were left ignored. Even so, you should definitely pick up Whatever Life Throws at You!
