Mai lettura fu più faticosa. Da dove comincio? Dal titolo: cavalcando l'eco dei romanzi austeniani, viene usato il nome del famoso protagonista maschile di uno dei suoi libri più celebri, Darcy. Peccato che qui sia una donna e il titolo non abbia niente a che fare con la storia. Scelta sicuramente fatta per imporre attenzione al libro sul vasto mercato editoriale. La trama: comprato perchè mi incuriosiva, trattandosi di storia d'amore e avendo come scenario l'Irlanda, che adoro, mi ha deluso. La storia è lenta, non ci sono colpi di scena, si sa già chi è il predestinato fin dalle prime pagine. Adattissima come storia per un film, posta sulla carta non rende. Ho fatto fatica a completarne la lettura. Per non parlare della miriade di errori di battitura che, in un'edizione come questa, dovrebbero essere assenti. I didn't know what this book was about when I started it, I just assumed that it had something to do with Jane Austen. You know, the hundreds of Austen rip-offs that allow you to fantasize over a modern day Darcy? Well, this isn't that at all. And, if I had read the description, I probably would not have read this. However, I'm glad I did. It started out rough... I mean, I almost quit reading it because Darcy is so shallow and... well, she's dumb. At least, she acts dumb in the beginning anyway. But as the story goes on, I started to fall for the people on Tara Island. I will be honest, Darcy's inability to see things that are pretty much right in front of her is infuriating. I mean, she turns out to be a very responsible and intelligent woman, but in situations, she acts dumb as a doorknob and I just didn't understand why. I think the supporting characters steal the show in this one. Thank goodness for Megan, Dermot, Niall, Roxie, and esp. Eamon. They made this book bearable and in the end, enjoyable.
