About book Atlantia (2014)

I am so happy to have a stand alone book! Thank you Ally Condie and the publisher for allowing this to happen! It took me a while to get into this book because it just seemed like a mash-up of all the dystopian books out there. But once the characters became more developed I was hooked and enjoyed the rest of the book. The one thing that got to me every time it happened was when the character asks (way to many) questions about a person or situation all at the time. Why do so many questions have to be asked right now? What will the reader think of this? Is it distracting? How else will my character get to ask all of these questions? I think this is just one of Ally Condie's writing moves that annoys me, but I was able to get past it and, really, it is probably pretty accurate for how people (especially teens) think and worry. I was definitely excited when I discovered a new book by Ally Condie was coming out, and it didn't disappoint. It delivered on all my expectations: fascinating background, deep characters, and a satisfying plot. While technically another dystopian book, it didn't feel overly familiar. The idea of the world of Atlantia and the depictions of the "miracles" were new concepts to me. This book will also be of enjoyment to those who are familiar with Greek mythology--the sirens in this book follow the traits of those of legend. I devoured this book in a single night. A quick, but delectable, read.
