About book Burning Wild (2009)

Jake Bannaconni was an abused child. The book starts with his birth and includes some unpleasant scenes from his childhood. But he is also a survivor. He accidentally allows an enemy to get pregnant with his child. While he is chasing his drunk pregnant ex, she and they guy she is with manage to wreck and kill both of them and the driver of the other car. The baby survives and Emma Reynolds also survives. She is pregnant with her now dead husband's baby. Jake is drawn to Emma - who of course is also a leopard and was his mate in a previous life. (The odds of this are only possible in a romance novel.) Jake gets Emma to come back to his Texas ranch to help take care of his baby and hers. She spends 2 years as his housekeeper before she is ready to really notice Jake. Jake is a mean business man. He is a bit domineering for my taste, but it mostly worked. Emma pretty much lets him talk and then does what she wants. Emma going out on a date with someone else is pretty funny. Some action, but less than a lot of the other books in this set. I enjoyed most aspects of this book, especially the revelation about the past of the female main character. Her history was introduced in a way to make the reader want to continue. However, I have major issues with the current trend in pornography disguised as romance. I also have major issues with a return to a mid-70s trend of portraying a control freak as ideal husband material. In this instance at least the man "chilled" and became more relaxed, but the intimate bedroom scenes were easily bypassed and added nothing to the story.
