About book La Ira De Los ángeles (2012)

I love this series. It is violent, twisted, scary and dark but for some reason it has sucked me in. This book really delves into the supernatural aspects of this series. The struggle between light and dark, the fight with fallen angels who are not friends of humans. You also learn the origins of one of the most terrifying serial killers and where Charlie may fit into the whole strange series of events that started in the first book and has continued through it all.If you haven't read any of the other Charlie Parker books this one may leave you scratching your head. It really relies heavily on characters and events that happened in other books. I think this one was one of the darkest so far but I loved it. A plane crash, a satchel full of money, a mysterious list and a bunch of creepy characters hunting for the downed plane all lead you on a violent crazy race to be the first to find the plane and discover its secrets. Its a wild ride from page 1. I've read all the Charlie Parker novels, and have yet to figure out if I like them. Connolly has a wonderful mythos present in the Parker world, and the supernatural elements keep me coming back. I don't have a lot of interest in crime stories, or in Charlie Parker as a character, which is a reflection on Connolly's writing that I still keep reading.Occasionally scenes run for too long, or seem to be largely superfluous to the plot. I also am a little tired of the way sexual violence against women is handled by the Parker series, in this one in particular. Sexual abuse is heaped on some of the women, in a way that is largely superfluous to the plot and does not allow for those women to reflect on their own experience. Charlie Parker and some others always do. Which, Parker is the central character, and there is a lot of violence overall in the books, which is fine, but the way certain crimes are handled by the narrative is a tiring trend that continues that continues in this book. For fans of Charlie Parker, I think this has been the strongest book in the series so far. For non-fans, the supernatural elements in Connolly work are often worth the mixed genre even if you're not a fan of crime/detective stories.
