About book M. Tigre Se Déchaîne (2014)

Mr. Tiger Goes Wild is a picture book with pretty good illustrations. It is about a tiger that is unhappy because he was born around proper people but Mr. Tiger wanted to be free, had fun and be wild. He changed her way of walking but his friends would not accepted it, he became wilder and wilder each day. As he went a little far, his friends lost their patience and told him to go into the wilderness. Mr. Tiger ran into the wilderness but he felt alone and missed the city and everyone, so he decided to return and for his surprised everything had changed, they all went wild. This book is great for encouraging kids to feel free to be themselves. I would make my students act out the story with costumes, and then give them a lesson about identity. "Mr. Tiger Goes Wild" there is an exciting and engaging book. I believe it would be a good book to read to preschoolers and kindergartners because it is simple enough for the children to relate to yet it is meaningful. The book tells the story about Mr. Tiger who lives in a neighborhood of animals that are very proper. They all dress in formal apparel and all seem fine with the way that things are there, all except Mr. Tiger. One day he decides that he has had enough of this plain and boring life and do something wild! He decides he is going to act like a tiger and walk on all fours. He roars as he takes off his suit, tie and top-hat. He feels free and happy because he is able to run around and let loose. However, the other people in his neighborhood don't quite understand this strange behavior. They tell him to go into the wilderness if he wants to act wild, so he does. When Mr. Tiger went back into town because he was lonely, he noticed that everyone was beginning to act like him. They were not so prim and proper but were open to change and being wild. In the end the animals of the town realized they could be both proper and wild at times.I think that this would be really good to read to children because it shows that there is a time to be "wild" or in other words a time to run around and act silly, but also a time to be quiet and listen. It also promotes individuality and allows students to realize that it is okay for students to act differently than others.I really like the illustrations, too, because the colors used are somewhat dull and boring. The only thing that really sticks out is Mr. Tiger which goes along with the story-line because Mr. Tiger is different from the rest of the animals; he sticks out. To make a project out of this, a teacher could have students illustrate pictures using different shades of gray and then picking one thing in their picture to stand out. They can use a bright color for this object, even if it is just a squiggle. Students can also practice the strategy of listening to the teacher on a daily basis. The teacher can say that it is time to get wild and have a moment where the students do a dance or run outside. Then when it is time to go in and be quiet they can be reminded that Mr. Tiger wanted to go home to his quiet room in the story.
