About book Meet Me At The Cupcake Cafe: A Novel With Recipes (2013)
I feel bad, because I really wanted to like this book more than I actually did. It just screams "Look at how fluffy and cute I am!" But try as I might, this one just felt repetitive to me...if Issy isn't complaining about her on-again-off-again boyfriend Graeme, she's just plotting and planning about how to open her cupcake cafe, and I feel like that portion goes on quite awhile. Of course, a young woman in an office-type job doesn't really have the background or the know-how to open a bakery cafe just like that; but still. I was expecting something more, somehow. This would've been two stars from me, but the yummy recipes included at the start of every chapter push it from a 2 to 3 star rating. Speaking of which...I should flip through again, and save any that catch my eye! :)Generally, I do enjoy books centered on food/restaurants; so I'll have to check out another Jenny Colgan book sometime...this was a fine book; but like I said before; I was expecting a little more from it somehow. I really liked this book. It was a nice, easy story to get in to with the typical stock characters ; ( Hero, Villian, Old(wise) character etc.) The element of having thee recipies at the beginning of every chapter inspired me to bak, but it aso was well done as letters from the Grandad, reminding the reader of him always being a part of the maind characters life. A definate feel good noval, that will make you hungry.
