About book Saratoga Woods (2013)

The Edge of Nowhere is a thrilling realistic teen-fiction book. The story is a quick paced teen-fiction like no other with a surprising twist at the end. If you liked the book Shackled then you will love this. Picture a young girl no more than 15, who has a dark secret no one can know. She then is unexpectedly stranded in a small town without a mother or guardian, and has to fend for herself while trying to hide her true identity. Becca King, a young girl who has too many secrets to hold is suddenly thrown into a problem much bigger than herself. Without her mother or father, she is left in a small town without a guardian where another unexpected problem arises. In the short while she has lived in town the boy of the under-sheriff goes into a coma, sending the town and Becca into a panic. With an under-sheriff asking too many questions, Becca’s safety is put into danger. Without Becca’s help though, certain miracles wouldn’t have occurred. Becca the protagonist in the story is a well-developed character who helps put other lives into perspective bringing the best and worst out of certain people. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars because it was an amazing story with a precarious cliff hanger that makes you beg for more. There many twists to the story that makes ending a happy surprise for the reader. All the characters are very well developed and each of them has a secret and back story that moves the story along. With just the right of romance weaved into the story line, this is the dream book for all realistic teen-fiction readers. Set on Whidbey Island (Coupeville mostly), the Edge of Nowhere is the first in a series about a girl who has the ability to hear people's thoughts and solves mysteries. Becca King's gift has forced she and her mother to flee their home in California and hide from her stepfather, who wants to manipulate her power to swindle people out of money. Becca's mother leaves her at a ferry dock to be picked up by a friend while she continues into Canada to find them a new life where they can be safe. Becca's ride never shows up...and she falls into a series of friendships that feel a little after-school specialish. When one of her new friends, a handsome young boy, is mysteriously critically injured in the woods while Becca and another new friend are there, Becca must try to sift through the voices she heard in the woods and solve the crime.Although not my fave mystery ever, it is set locally and in great detail; kids familiar with Coupeville and Whidbey Island may enjoy, as may fans of supernatural mysteries.
