About book Sturmwarnung (2011)

My only issue with this book was the constant negativity toward a few extra pounds on a 14 year old. From the main character's mother to her supposed best friend. When she lost the few extra pounds by riding her bike every day for miles on end, George made sure that one of the main male characters noted this weight loss and then found the female more attractive *rolling eyes*. She's 14! Other than this ongoing dialog about her weight, the book was engaging and an easy read :) This was one of the best mysteries I have read in a really long time. Hannah Armstrong is 14, from San Diego, California and lives with her mom Laurel and her step dad Jeff Corrie. Oh by the way, she can hear "whispers" or thoughts.Becca King formally known as Hannah Armstrong is on the run, hiding out from her step dad Jeff Corrie. Her mother has left her on Whidbey island outside of Washington state, to stay with an old friend.Becca King finds herself in a bit of a pickle after arriving on the island and has to deal with trusting those around her and surviving among these strangers. On the ferry to Whidbey, Becca encounters a very dark and handsome Ugandan boy. He smells of fruit and has a sad heart. This is the moment her stay on Whidbey changes. The mystery revolves around the Ugandan boy Derric and his tragic fall in Saratoga Woods. Who pushed him? Why is he in a coma? Who pushed him? The undersheriff of the town so happens to be Derric's dad and he will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of this mystery. The thing I liked about this book was even though it had a paranormal feel it was anything but. Becca can hear voices, thoughts, "whispers" of the people around her it is an inherited trait, her grandmother could do it too. The book never made it to be anything more than it was. There was a secrecy about it yes, because who would believe her or even understand this gift. With that being said it didn't make the story hokie. This was a cat and mouse kind of mystery and I loved that I really didn't know who or how things came about till the very end. The book left off with a cliffhanger, but it was packaged nicely at the end where only one thread was left undone and that is a good start for the sequel.

Disappointed in so many ways--plot, characters, her command of the language.
