About book Sins Of The Heart (2010)

I would have given this a higher rating if it wasn't for the numerous repetitions within the novel. It felt like reading fan-fiction that would be released in bits at a time, where the author needed to remind the reader of what had happened since their last read. At first I didn't mind it, but it became annoying during the character's inner dialogues. That being said, this book is a great start to an entertaining PNR. I'm glad I'm coming into this novel late because all the books have been written and published and if I'm known for anything, it definitely isn't my patience. The story sets the stage for four brothers who are sons of Sutekh, God of chaos, and who serve him as soul reapers by harvesting souls for his consumption. Dagan Krayl is the first born son of Sutekh and this is his book. During a soul retrieval above ground, he finds a young female prisoner (Roxy) desperately trying to escape her bonds. He is captivated by her and begins a dialogue with her that ends in her survival of her unfortunate predicament and his instruction that she go forth and live a normal and safe life. Fate and circumstances has them crossing paths more than a decade later and amongst the confusion, betrayal, battle, and gore they find themselves preternaturally attracted to each other. There is a lot happening in this novel with many characters that are introduced. The author does a great job of keeping the characters organized and from what occurs at the end of the book, I think the same characters will show their faces in the following novels. The story is unique, the love story is hot and spicy, and the characters are likable. I think this story is best read in sequence as this book ends with a cliff-hanger.Narrator:Savannah RichardsPerformance: 4/5After I set the narration to 2x speed the book was easier to listen to. Savannah Richards reads this novel really slow so if you can't adjust the speed of your device, you may find her reading pace to be lulling or annoying. Other than the speed issue, she did a good job with the narration. It took a while for me to get into this one. It wasn't bad, but it just wasn't what I thought it would be. That's not a bad thing just unexpected. The characters took a while to get together and that made it a bit dragged out, but once they did, things picked up and it began to move and then it wrapped up with things left hanging. I have enough questions that I will likely try the rest just to see where they were going with this series. There is only 4 books total to not a massive time invested. So at this point I'm kind of on the fence with this one.
