About book The Dark-Hunters, Vol. 1 (2009)

I heard of the series but haven't read any of the books. So I finally got around to reading this volume and the premise, lore was interesting. The art was good to okay. And couldn't help but laugh at some of the expressions. Not saying the art is bad. It wasn't. Anyway, interesting is how I'd describe this volume. A lot of exposition going on but still good. I don't know if its the hair or the way he's drawn, but does Hunter remind anyone of Claude from Vampire Kisses Blood Relatives? Just me...maybe? Amanda was born into a family entangled in the paranormal, but all she wants is a normal life. Kyrian was a Greek general, born 2000 years ago, until one day his wife betrayed him and he became a dark-hunter (a vampire that hunts vampires). When these two cross paths, their fates change. Both Amanda and Kyrian constantly talk while they try to escape, and eventually hunt down a powerful vampire. This has the unfortunate affect of information getting revealed at an unnatural pace and in an unnatural way. Kyrian especially feels all too willing to share his innermost secrets to someone he only just met. Both characters voice their inner thoughts at points. Their is an immediate attraction between the two, but again thanks to the transition from book to manga, this all feels rushed.Greek mythology becomes the root of this supernatural romance. Some of the connections between this and the vampires are quite clever, and a good deal of time is spent to establish this world. It is this aspect which makes this story interesting. The text is adapted by a western artist in the manga style. The quality just meets the standard, but inconsistencies in faces drawn at certain angles keeps it from being anything special. Both Amanda, and Kyrian struggle to overcome their fears, but in the face of such danger, they will need to do this, fortunately they have each other.
