About book The Fireman And The Cop (2013)

While I did enjoy the characters painted by the author, and liked the idea of big-city firefighter leaving for small town work due to his sexuality, I found the story... lacking somehow.Whether it was the poor sentence structure, or the spelling and grammar issues, I'm not sure. But its not a 5-star story for me.The characters were likeable, even if I found myself wanting to learn more about the subcharacters. I wish there had been more exposition on Max and Finn, but in a 79 page story, what can you do? Despite the grammar issues and my wariness as to how the suspense side of the plot panned out, it was a fun read, and the scenes between Max and Finn were wonderful to read, even if their initial interaction had me wondering if that was how people really acted. Funny, I really wanted to like this, but it was disappointing on too many levels. I liked the characters, but Finn - the cop - is written like somebody much younger (like a teenage boy) though it made me wonder if I just didn't remember what being 25 was all about; but if you are a cop and independent then I would think you would be more mature than that. I thought the writing was a little simplistic, but I saw potential. The sex scenes were just clunky and didn't work at all, but the biggest disappointment was who the bad guy is... that was sooooo predictable, I felt myself deflating when it was revealed; I wanted to be surprised, not find out that it was exactly who I thought it was. First in a series that I'll probably explore some more because like I said there was potential here and I want to know if the author came into her own later on, we live in hope.
