About book The Most Improper Miss Sophie Valentine (2012)

This book sounded so good! And it started off good too. But it did not go good (for me). The title of this book implied that Sophie (h) is improper and while yes sending an advertisement for a husband to the newspaper is improper, also reading a sex book and a few other small things are improper, that was it until like 60% or so of the book. Set aside the "naughty" desires in her head (which also make her think she is improper) she is miserable at her brothers house, they talk down to her, they talk about sending her away and they are just plain mean to her, but when Lazarus (H) answers her advertisement for a husband she freaks out, for more than half of the book she says she cant/wont marry him, yes her brother says she also cant marry him (but reading her thoughts, it seemed like that wasn't really another reason she didn't want to marry him, it just was) back then arranged marriages happened all the time, sometimes they didn't even know each other, or they hated each other so why did Sophie keep saying she couldn't marry Lazarus, that is wasn't right, and all this other stuff when we knew they were attracted to each other and by marrying him it would get her and her aunt out of a crappy household. My point is if she was "Improper" (like the title and description of the book implied) why didn't she jump at the chance to marry him? Why did she keep saying no, and keep taking crap from her sister-in-law, and keep trying to push Lazarus towards other woman. Looking at the whole picture and remembering it was a different time period i do understand why in general someone would not just marry a total stranger, BUT I felt like this book "lied" (about the only word I can think of) Sophie was only a little improper and for the most part her improper -ness was in her thoughts. This very much irritated me about her and about the book, i was expecting more I guess, I ended up skimming a ton of this book. This author does write and tells a good story, I liked Lazarus, i liked the humor and for the most part the dialog was good. Sophie's character just did not make sense to me. Sex *** I'm surprised the rating of this book is not higher. I loved everything about it. Maybe it's because she is from England that Jayne Fresina wrote the story of Sophie in an old fashionned way but with the modern touch of the fairy tales movies that came with Shrek. The writing style, the rythm of the story, the lenght of the chapter, the dose between dialogues and descriptions, the characters were perfect. I wouldn't change anything.

An ok read, I was expecting the lady to be a might bit younger but a nice story none the less.
