One of my all time favorite books is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. So I'm always looking for a book whose time frame is that era. Although I've read many, they always fall flat. This was a freebie for my nook so I wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised! Jane Fresina merges wit with charm in this book. Love the characters especially Hartley's butler Grieves. He line delivery had me laughing several times-and naming Hartley Smallwick-HILARIOUS! While I was reading it was easy to visualize the character, how they spoke, how they looked. Smart, fresh, full of wit and charm, I'm definitely going to read more Jayne Fresina Fun historical romance, I never knew whether Ellie and James would make it or not, they kept me guessing. There was a lot of humor in this story, and the two characters were likable despite some of their unexpected actions. Ellie was such an unconventional and irrepressible heroine and James was entranced with her, despite their antagonistic history, but throughout the story, although I was rooting for them, I was never sure they would work it out. I was happy to see a satisfactory conclusion for these two despite it all.
