Just about every guy the heroine meets in this story falls hopelessly in love with her, to the point they become jealous and start treating her like property. The story was ok, and the world building interesting. I think she was trying for a steampunk type dystopian world, but parts of it didn't seem to make sense. Also, the "savages" were so tall and muscular they made the heroine look like a child in comparison, which after all the love triangles/quadrangles, got a little too much for me. The Pearl Savage #1 was a good read. Although I thought the unique world was an interesting concept, the book never truly grabbed me. The characters were interesting and the ending left it open for the next adventure. I did find it interesting that the lead character, Clara, was so irresistible to basically any male around her. All these guys wanted her in a very intense way. Depending on the taste of each reader, this concept could be considered pretty awesome or pretty creepy. Although I am curious on what will happen next, I will most likely read the next book in this series eventually, but not necessarily right now. There have been some shining recommendations concerning this book, but I found it as an alright story. I thought the concept was neat, but this book didn't move me. I don't believe that every book should or will move a person, some books are just good reads, but I prefer the ones that do. 3 stars, liked, not loved.
