About book Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star (2011)

Twinkle Twinkle little star is a little poem every kid knows and says when they see the brightest star in the sky. Some make a wish, others just admire the beautiful sight. This book is based of that poem but Jerry Pinkney takes it to a new and more spectacular level. A little chipmunk is looking for the star that shines so bright in the sky, wondering what exactly it is. He takes you on fun little adventures to find the star that shines so brightly in the sky, then ends with him falling asleep still wondering what it is. While reading this book you are taken back to your own childhood, looking up at the sky, seeing those millions of stars and seeing that one that shines brighter than all the others. I felt a sense of security while reading this book because that's how I felt when I looked up into the sky.Jerry Pinkney always does an amazing job with his writing and his illustrations. Both going in such a smooth flow, each picture telling a story of its own. I loved the picture with the chipmunk flying through the sky on a little boat. He's soaring past the moon, looking for that star. He used pencil, water colors and colored pencils on paper. All pictures are beautifully done and show just how talented he is. This book is based on the nursery rhyme Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, written and illustrated by Jerry Pinkney, one of my favorite children's illustrators. It is about chipmunk who has the most marvelous dream. In his dream he turns a bird’s nest into a boat and flies off into the starry sky. A clouds wind’s blowing allows him to sail through the sky until he dropped his hat and jumped into the lake to retrieve it while continuing to admire the starry sky in the water’s reflection. Along the way he passes many animal creates who help him and eventually we see him dreaming in his nest fast asleep. This book is lovingly drawn with considerable attention to detail and it is one that will invite you to read it over and over again. The drawings lured me into the story and make me wish that I was on the journey with the chipmunk!
