About book Weep No More, My Lady (2007)

Another MHC’s story huh? You might be thinking that I’m now back on digging another of hers for one straight month eh? I don’t think I am  It’s just that, I miss reading her stories and FYI there’s still a ton of hers in my reading list :PAnd about this story, well, it’s just actually a short read. I could possibly finish it in just one sitting, but surprisingly, it took me a week. Well, I have some good reasons for that. First, I was busy with my job; second, I was also working on my so called “artwork” before Christmas so I could hand it out proudly as a presents to my friends (how sweet of me eh? lol); and lastly, which I am really disappointed to say, this story started so dull that it’s even hard for me to keep reading. In normal circumstances, I could have rated this story 3 stars of worse 2 stars but instead I lit up the 4 stars. But wait, for you haven’t heard more, hehehe. Given what I said that it started dull, and yeah it is, but totally just in the start. Who would have thought that the suspense and the never ending guessing and confusing part or whom what is known as the “who done it” part that I never anticipated in this short story finally subsided after that boring introduction. Too bad, I wish I could have waited so I could be able to finish it early.I started reading this last Sunday and which I decided to resume this Saturday. And guess what? I finished it for just half a day! That’s how this story is so engrossing. And as usual, I’m still that lame on guessing the real culprit! MHC, you’re still damn good in always making me feel stupid on coming up with my suspects. It is widely known that MHC’s most loved characters were Alvirah and Willy Meehan. And I must say, you, fans should read it, for Alvirah is much present in here though Willy is due only on the last few chapters of the story. There’s some quite a number of English terms that I couldn’t really understand without the help of the dictionary, but is still cool. The scenes we’re all so fresh to me and ofcourse, the happy ending and a twist of romance is highly attainable in this book. And any complains about its characters or any flaws seen? Well, so far, nothing. I almost regard it as perfect without the boring opening.I think that sums it all. Read the story and be ready for a never-ending confusion. A woman is dead and before her trial starts, a bunch of her former friends gather together at a spa, including her sister, the star witness and the fiance Ted, the man on trial for her murder. The killer is apprehended at the end. The premise is interesting enough and the suspense is sustained throughout the book, especially since everyone has something to hide and people keep lying in order to protect themselves or someone else. The author also introduced Alvirah Meehan in this book, who goes on to become a popular sleuth and unlike some of her later books, Meehan's inclusion does not seem forced and she seamlessly fits into the story. The weak point of the book is Elizabeth, the dead woman's sister, who is also the main character of the book. She starts off with believing firmly in Ted's guilt, then somewhere down the line, she bursts out about suicide and finally, it ends with some silly nonsensical idea about how much she had always been in love with Ted, blah blah. What. The. Hell? Oh, and for some reason she deludes herself that the dead sister would have wanted them to get together. I don't understand from where authors come up with these unrealistic ideas! The main character was pretty weak and so was this 'romance' angle, which could have been entirely dispensed with and a more taut story line provided. But of course, we need the hero rescuing the heroine at the last moment - how's that possible if she doesn't fall in loooovveee at random?!Another disappointing thing was the murderer and motive for the murder. It was again not believable enough. After reading some of Clark's psychological thrillers, this was an extremely lame effort by any standard. The overall reading experience was good and the other characters were interesting. This was rather a saving grace as even though I guessed the killer in the last quarter of the book, I was still interested to know how they were all going to end up. An average book - enjoyable but with a lot of plot and character weaknesses.

Do You like book Weep No More, My Lady (2007)?

S'all right. I liked it because this was a fast-paced multinarrational text about an off text committed murder. It runs a little like an isolated manor text, but not really. The characters and plot line are a little contrived. The sister of the murdered woman goes to a spa (who does that) to rest up for her testimoney in court (okay, believable) only to find the man she believes (and will be tried for) killed her sister. Instead of leaving immediately she stays and thank goodness (thank goodreads?) because the killer is also at the spa (seriously, who does this?). She helps acquit the man she believed had killed her sister (who was her sister's fiance and her crush... this chick is weird) and the bad guy is vanquished. So I didn't sell this well. It's actually a good little murder mystery and introduces the character Alvirah Meehan, the lucky lotto winner who becomes a top-notch slueth. Love her. Higgins Clark has stronger books out there.
