About book When The Sun Goes Down (2000)

I feel like I just came from one of the most delusional planets ever after reading this book. The author not only gives us a twisted and confused story about life, she did it with such expertise I sometimes forgot I wasn’t in that world while I was reading. This book kept me up very late and I cursed the sleep that was demanding my attention because I just needed to figure out who this character was. Trina is a quiet music teacher at an elementary school. It is clear that her family has scared her and made her lie to people just to avoid having to discuss them. She has built walls around her that are so thick, even the one and only friend she had at work spent two years just getting her to go out for a drink with her. Trina believes that if you keep socializing to a very low limit, you will be able to avoid the drama that comes with society and friendships. Her walls are about to be tested when she slams into Lucca, the new teacher at her school. He is the sexy male that has the unique ability to make Trina do what he wants and she does it willingly.Kat is a woman scorned, not by men in her life but by her own father. Determined to make sure every man knows what it is like to be burned and hurt, she goes out on her nightly missions to hunt down men who want sex, only to leave them in compromising positions. Kat is very structured and needs her routines at home, even down to color coding her clothing for each day of the week. Growing up with her friend and driver Leo, that relationship takes on a new role as she gets older. He is the one who satisfies her sexual need as well as protects her on the nights she is out to take men down. It is when the lives of Trina and Kat start to merge that things start getting explosive. With Leo and Lucca protecting the women they have fallen for, it will be a wild ride when things start to come out about Trina and Kat. With Kat’s main mission of taking down her father and his political career, Trina’s main mission in life is to just stay invisible and enjoy children and music. Neither have a clue how their lives are about to become a twisted mess. Erin did a fantastic job at keeping us on the edge of our seats with this story. There were never any dragging scenes and she kept my mind engaged as I tried to make sense of the two women’s story. As the truth started to come out, the author took me to a new level of insanity as now I had to view Trina and Kat in a new way. If you want a book that will keep you tied up in knots till you finish it, this would be a wise choice. I bought this book in March, and it somehow got lost in the shuffle, but I am glad I found it. I had been in a reading funk- where everything seemed to be repeating itself and this was like a breath of fresh air. I've read some of Erin Noelle's other works and this one was just different, deeper, grittier, darker and more intriguing.I figured out fairly early into the book that Trina and Kat are two sides of the same coin. That being said, I had no idea where the story was going to go. Would she give into the darkness to find her revenge or would she stay in the light? Her character exemplifies the struggle that we all face at some point in our lives- do we let the past consume us and take away our future of do we let it go...Luckily for her, she had the help of two extraordinary men. There is Leo, her best friend, bodyguard, driver and go-to. . Then there is Lucca. Sweet, understanding Lucca with his mesmerizing eyes. As Kat struggles with her life she also battles what to do about these men. She makes her choice and everything else falls into place. Leo, she loves him and he is in love with her. Enough that he walked away so that she could be happy. This isn't the only sacrifice that he makes- but no big spoiler on that from me.There are plenty of twists and turns along the way that kept me flipping the pages and wanting more. There is that slight little cliffhanger at the end...I can't wait to see what happens with that!
