Where The Mountain Meets The Moon (2009)

About book: Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is an amazing example of imagery in words. The author Grace Lin uses folk stories to put to life this book. Grace Lin uses the traditional folktales to write a creative and imaginary story about a young girl. Young readers will love this story because the story has magic, adventure, travel and much more in it! They will appreciate Grace Lin's writing style immensely. Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, by Grace Lin, is an extraordinary tale of a poor girl that goes on a mission to change her families fortune and lifestyle. There are many comparisons in this book that relate to a more well- known tale, the Wizard of Oz. I would love to have my students do a book comparison and have them read the Wizard of Oz and Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. Then the students could compare and contrast the differences and similarities between the two books. While I was reading this book I couldn’t help but naturally do that myself. I believe that this could allow my students by more diverse in culture and literature. I would love to complete this activity in my future classroom and hopefully my students would enjoy it as much as I did.
