About book Fables, Vol. 20: Camelot (2014)

After the disappointing volume of Fairest I read a few weeks back, I was feeling trepidation about diving into the Fable universe again, but Willingham pulled off a good recovery for this arc that is leading into the end of the series. I'm actually glad that it is coming to an end, since I've felt the last few collections have been lesser lights compared to the first major story line. I think it's time. With this volume, Willingham brings in the Camelot legend, which is another thing I tend to shy away from, because it's been done so many times that I generally find it boring, however I'm enjoying the way he is pulling it into his world. The building rivalry between Rose Red and Snow White looks promising. And Willingham is deft at providing well-rounded female (and male) characters with real motivations, emotions, and plans. I hope the final volume lives up to this one. Rose Red works on establishing a new Camelot, inadvertently taking on the role of Arthur. Who will play the role of Guenevere will be interesting. She also manages to alienate Snow White. Bigby is working his way back to the real world where villainy is afoot and the new North Wind is exerting her power. Geppetto is up to some of his old tricks and then Bo Peep, Puss in Boot and the Band go seeking adventure in various versions of Scotland. to round out the book. Twill be interesting what pops out of the woodwork next.

Do You like book Fables, Vol. 20: Camelot (2014)?

A chessboard volume as it sets up for the final volumes, but brilliant as always.
