I was hoping for a cute little palate cleanser, but this was just too trite and boring to do the job. Turns out middle school flirting is much less fun to read about than it was to experience. Repetitive and lacking depth, I still debated three stars for generally innocent cuteness and strong bonds of friendship, but that ended after one too many notes to a best friend about being constipated from nerves plus one (8th grade!) girl's "woohoo!" response to being felt up. The challenge with a novel written in letters (and eventually diary entries) is it's hard to distinguish more than one voice. This one fails to do that. Annie and Izzy are identical, and when they start crushing over the same guys, it only gets more challenging to differentiate them. Funny overall and it reminded me of a lot of middle school girls I know. Although I have to say I was really tired of reading about the one girl's bodily function issues.
This book is hilarious. I really liked this book. It's the funniest book I've read in forever.
