About book Gente Letal (2009)

I read this book after reading the first two Dani Ripper books and realizing that I was missing quite a bit of backstory. Donovan makes an appearance in one of the Dani books that I read so I'm hoping to find it here. All of Locke's character's inside jokes and histories are really annoying but considering I keep downloading the books to try and figure it out there must be something there. Really, very few of the characters are likable, so it's odd that I'm this invested. The writing is OK. No glaring edition issues like some authors which seems nothing short of a miracle considering Locke self-publishes his books. The stories are usually interesting enough to make me download another book, but certainly nothing to lose sleep over as you stay up reading. I've now read Books 1-3 in Donovan and 1-2 in Dani and do plan to continue unless they start to suck (or even if they do, as my LKH or Stephanie Plum collections might tell you...). It's not a bad way to spend $2.99 on an eBook but I'll never understand why he's in the small, elite company of "over 1 million sold on Amazon." This is a ride into escapism! Abandon your preconceived ideas of a traditional action man at the first page!Donovan Creed has his flaws, is rough round the edges, hardened by his work as a CIA operative and freelance mercenary but at the same time has a tender side. I got really wrapped up in the story and when outrageous things happened it was a great surreal journey! I felt apart from some spy toys, Creed uses smarts and plenty of planning to achieve his objectives and he isn't completely superhuman like a lot of other characters you read as a government or mercenary operative. I'm a confirmed fan now and look forward to the next in the series.

Our first Donovan Creed Book. Very enjoyable, love the characters and the twists in the plot.

Easy, quick, fun in a weird way, read but ridiculously implausible and a bit disturbing.
