About book Pirate Dave And His Randy Adventures (2013)
I really wanted to try something different from my usual reads. There were so many 4 and 5 star reviews that I proclaimed how humorous this book is so I thought I'd give it a shot. Well, it wasn't my cup of tea. It was a very fast read at least. I prefer dry, witty humor where name calling and vulgarity is included for effect, not so much for the humor of the word itself. For me, the story didn't explain much or what was really going on. I assumed that there would be more "randiness" to Dave's adventures, but there just wasn't. Overall it just fell flat for me. The book was more silly and absurd than humorous and funny. Alright this book just didn't work for me. It wasn't that it was awful, alright out of context from the other story it is meant to be a part of, it was. I think if I had read this story after reading the one it originated in I might have been able to appreciate it, but as a stand-alone with no context, nope didn't work. I get that is meant to be tongue in cheek and purposely outrageous and bad. That is fine, but I just found it too much, almost like to story was trying too hard, and maybe that was its point. Not knowing the back story though, all I have is to judge this book on its own merits and for me it fell flat. There were some clever parts and I did manage to finish it, but over all I kept waiting for it to be done. I don't mind a little cheese, but this was just too cheesy.
