I'm exhausted!! In every way, shape and form. Blimey oh riley. I have to admit that i did start skipping pages whilst in Mercs I. Shocking, I know, but there's only so much orgy sex this gal can take. I was more interested in the characters and their story by this point.Good stuff, heavy but satisfying!!Just about to start Veterans.Synopsis so far:Soldiers- 5 stars,Mercs I- 3 stars; too much sex, not enough substance, 600 pages too many!Mercs II- 4.5 stars.Now onto the final book.....Update--- Veterans- 5 stars. Ahhhh this book was so romantic and back to the easy going, page turning style that I loved in the first book. If it's weren't for Mercs I the whole series would be an easy 5 stars overall. I'm going to stick to a 4.5 stars though.I can finally go on to read something else; being the same length as 15 books this series certainly consumed me over the past month. I would definitely recommend it. Please note that this rating and review is for Soldiers (Special Forces #1). I am currently reading Mercenaries, as I am completely at Aleksandr Voinov's mercy when it comes to his stories. I love the characters of Vadim and Dan. Their story is compelling, violent, and gut wrenching. They jump from the pages and into your heart, two imperfect, tortured men who find each other and build a relationship amidst the chaos and destruction of war. The authors' ability to bring the horrors and reality of the conflict in Afghanistan to life is chilling, taking the reader right into characters' heads as they exist day to day within the confines of a brutal system not of their own making. Dan and Vadim survive and forge a bond despite all obstacles, and their devotion to one another is felt on a visceral level. I had to take a short break from their saga, but I will return to Mercenaries soon, as I simply cannot stay away from this sweeping, epic tale. Thank you, Aleksandr Voinov, for yet another amazing journey!
