About book The Way Of The Warrior (2008)

Great! Links in well with the Australian Curriculum History Year 8 'Japan under the Shoguns' topic. Could use well within a cross curricula History / English / Japanese Language unit.Covers basic language related to the period (Shogun, Daimyo, samurai, bushido - etc).Discusses the Jesuit Christian missionaries present in Japan at the time and how dangerous it became for them.Linkss to weather, seasons, festivals, and other cultural aspects of Japanese society. I felt that this book was a real attention grabber that hooked me from the very first page. The book is about a boy - Jack Fletcher- who has a sense of adventure, but like any good adventure crisis strikes. Jack then finds himself in an entirely different world where he struggles to fit in and survive long enough to find a way to get back to his sister. Things get even more crazy and a renowned Samurai takes him in as his apprentice, and he has to use the skills that he learns to save his life and his friends too. I like the book because it took me to another culture and showed me what it would be like to get thrown into the culture without any background knowledge. I also liked it because it had a little bit of the pirates and sailors, but the ninjas and the samurai were what really caught my attention. This could be because of their history and that they are from another culture, but also it was because they have strict moral codes that they have to live by in order to truly become a ninja or samurai. This is a book that I will come back to again and again and enjoy thoroughly each and every time.

Very good book, but a ripp off from shogun TV series in the 80's. But I still enjoyed the Book
