To unbelievable and cliche for me if we're being honest. First off, the whole book is too rushed. I mean, am I really supposed to believe that Rue is just going to hand off his baby to somebody he describes as crazy in about ten seconds flat?And I didn't really see the characters grow... or become anything other than characters to me. There wasn't enough development and they just weren't fleshed out enough for me to really care about them. The over all book moved too quickly and just wasn't anything I want to pick up again or read another book by this author. Three and half stars, rounded up. This had a lot of elements that appeal to me. The main characters were both faced with challenges to overcome; one, unexpectedly becoming a dad, and the other mental health issues that left him a recluse. Dealing with those challenges while making their way forward made for interesting reading. There were a few items that felt out of place - it stretched credulity to a thin thread to think Erik would be willing to take on little Alice, though the money issue did help not snap that thread completely. Also, we discover later in the book that Erik has a nice set of abs., despite the fact that he apparently lives a completely sedentary life, consuming nothing but junk food. Minor point, but since it's mentioned more than once, it felt jarring.I didn't believe the chemistry between Rue and Erik at first, but it did develop for me over time, and I truly cared what happened to them by the time they hit the final conflict before the story's resolution. I loved Erik, and Rue's friend Dusty is a nice addition to the story.
