About book Fairest, Vol. 2: The Hidden Kingdom (2013)

This would be more of a 3.5 stars. My first contact with the fables universe left me wanting more, although this one is written by Lauren Beukes, so I don't know if the style is any different from the original series. The story itself is interesting: we follow Rapunzel back to Japan, where she is hoping to find her daugthers and she finds herself in the middle of a war. Beautiful artwork and references to Japanese culture, movies etc. The second volume in the Fairest series is a fast paced mystery of who stole Rapunzels children and a bunch of flashbacks. While the artwork was really cool and the Japanese background in fables was interesting, I wasn't as invested in this story like I was in the first volume. The characters were not given much of an introduction and there wasn't enough time for a relationship to develop between the reader. I don't understand why Jack is even in this story? There is a great dislike for him that has grown quite quickly and I'm not a fan of his tasteless womanizing.Even though this volume did not live up to my standards, I hope to read on and find better written twists on classic fables.

Do You like book Fairest, Vol. 2: The Hidden Kingdom (2013)?

So Rapunzel is a badass, hair eating, butt kicking bisexual. Yeah that seems about right.
